Physical Therapy

Our pediatric physical therapists assess and treat children who have a variety of neurological, orthopedic and developmental needs. Exercises to improve strength and range of motion as well as functional training techniques are used to help develop a child’s ability to move through their environment easily and efficiently.  Physical therapy programs include encouraging developmental milestones such as sitting, crawling, standing and walking as well as advanced gross motor patterns such as jumping, running and stair climbing. We help assess the need for orthotics and specialized medical equipment that helps improve joint alignment and encourage independent mobility.
Bright Beginnings therapists use an evidence based practice approach, using the most recent research to assess and treat students who demonstrate limitations with their ability to physically move through their home and school environments.  Current research supports the theory that children learn best by exploring their environment using a variety of experiences to stimulate their senses and movement patterns. We encourage problem solving by the child to facilitate higher-level learning. Our therapists strive to make treatment sessions fun, interactive and educational.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy uses purposeful activities to assist children to gain independence. The goal of OT is to enable children to participate in the activities of everyday life. Goal directed activities assist children to participate in play, education, feeding and dressing, rest and sleep and social interaction. In addition to teaching skills and educating the family, Occupational Therapists may modify an activity or the environment to meet each child’s needs.  Bright Beginnings has therapists who specialize in fine motor development, sensory integration and sensory processing, feeding and oral motor control and dressing skills as well as visual motor integration, visual perceptual skills and handwriting.  Bright Beginnings Occupational Therapists have experience in many diagnoses including Autism Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Prader- Willi Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, visual impairment, pre-maturity, to name a few.

Speech Language Pathology

Speech-language pathologists have a large role in providing services and supports for families and their infants or toddlers with disabilities as members of the early intervention and preschool team. Bright Beginnings is proud to staff certified and licensed speech-language pathologist who are qualified to address delays and disabilities in communication, language, speech, and feeding/swallowing. Effective communication is fundamental to all aspects of human functioning, particularly learning and social interaction. The development
of communication skills begins at birth. Our speech-language pathologists collaborate with families, caregivers, and other professionals to provide the most effective treatment. Our therapists work hard to make certain our services are family centered and culturally and linguistically responsive. We work in the child’s natural environment to provide developmentally supportive child centered therapy. We pride ourselves on providing services that are comprehensive, coordinated, and team based. We are constantly learning to make sure our services are based on the highest quality evidence that is available.
